Responsibility

We develop our materials with people, planet and performance in mind, keeping the craft and tradition of surfboard building alive.

The surfboard industry is built on passion, craftsmanship, and chemicals.

Since the 1950s, when pioneering shapers in California first began experimenting with polyurethane foam and polyester resin, these materials have remained the top choice for shapers and surfers alike.

They’re easy to work with and create that distinct feeling on a wave. As surfers, we want to pursue this unique feeling but in a more responsible way.

Environmental Responsibility

Our commitment to environmental responsibility is verified by third-party organizations like Sustainablesurf and Makersite.

Traditional polyurethane foams and polyester resins, derived from virgin petrochemical sources, are harmful to both people and the environment and have a severe2 footprint. In contrast, our materials are based on recycled and bio-based feedstocks, which have significantly lower environmental impact and CO2 footprint, benefiting both people and the planet.

We believe in the process and are committed to constantly evolving and creating more environmentally responsible materials for surfboard manufacturing. While we don’t claim to be perfect, we embrace the challenge of developing new high-performance solutions that prioritize environmental responsibility.

Social Responsibility

Surfboard manufacturing is a labor of love, carried out by skilled craftsmen and women who dedicate their lives to this art, keeping surf culture alive and vibrant.

At Polyola, we recognize the importance of preserving these traditions, which is why we’ve made it a priority to develop materials that seamlessly integrate into established processes. Our goal is to support and elevate surfboard culture while honoring the dedication of those who craft each board by hand.

With that responsibility comes the need to ensure the safety and well-being of those working with our materials. We are committed to reducing harmful substances in the production process.

By transitioning from TDI to MDI and lowering styrene content, we are taking steps to create a safer, healthier environment for the craftsmen and women who rely on these materials every day.
